One person builds Kivolio

Kivolio gathers bills and receipts from email and phone scans into one private, searchable place. Your records are yours: never training data, exportable whole, and the privacy policy names every outside call we make.

What is written down, including what went wrong

A small operation cannot offer you a support organisation, so it offers you the record instead. Three examples, from the documents the product is built from.

Roadmap

A section for what we decided against

The roadmap keeps a list headed “Won’t do (for now) — with reasons”. Live currency conversion on the phone is on it: it would put network calls and retries on the handset, and the server already converts at ingest, where a retry is cheap.

Incident

Four days of silent failure, recorded

The launch checklist carries an open item saying scheduled email sync failed silently from 6 to 10 September 2026. The timer fired and the job ran; both Gmail accounts failed at token refresh and said nothing.

Retrospective

Green in every phase, and unusable

The retrospective on the documents work records: “‘shipped’ was measured per-phase, and every phase was green while the feature was unusable. A capture surface without a read surface isn’t a feature.”

None of those are pages on this site. They are internal working documents, described here because how a product records its own mistakes is worth knowing before you hand it four years of receipts.

The build, counted

The first commit is dated 21 May 2026. The figures below were counted in the repository on 19 September 2026.

64,339 lines of Python — the pipeline, the classifier, the web app and the API the phone talks to.
28,946 lines of Swift — the iPhone app and its share extension.
2,593 test functions in the suite, counted as def test_ declarations in the test files.
13 architecture decision records, each one saying why a call was made.

Two of the thirteen records exist because something was abandoned. One retires a quiet-sender gate that was built and then deliberately left unwired. Another records that a marketing route was dropped for want of a lawful basis to use the data it needed.

Kivolio is not open to the public. There is no sign-up, and accounts are created by invitation; signing in with Google signs an existing account in and founds nothing. Prices are not settled either, so access today is by asking.

Where to write

Write to hello@kivolio.app. It reaches the person who writes the code, and that person answers.
